In the 1960s, Cohen lived on the Greek island Hydra for 7 years with his girlfriend Marianne.
To help Cohen fight his bouts of depression, Marianne encouraged his song writing which led to another Cohen masterpiece, 'Bird on a Wire',
After their relationship ended , they remained friends for the rest of their lives.
They died 3 months apart.
